Question 1: Name any three causes of fire.

Answer: The three causes of fire are:

  1. Carelessness while handling burning match sticks, candles etc.
  2. Electric faults
  3. Gas leakage


Question 2: Why should we not operate any electrical switches when there is a gas leak?

Answer: We should not operate any electrical switches when there is a gas leak because the electrical switches generate sparks while being switched on and off.


Question 3: What should be done in case a person's clothing catches fire?

Answer: In case a person's clothing catches fire he or she should be rolled on the floor to control the flames quickly. Water can also be used to control the flames. A fire blanket may also be used but water is better.


Question 4: What is a fracture? what should be done in case of fracture?

Answer: A break or crack in a bone is called fracture. The fractured part should not be moved and the victim should be taken to the hospital immediately. For example: If the fracture is in the hand, a cloth sling should be used to prevent movement.


Question 5: How can fire hazards be prevented?

Answer: The ways to prevent fire hazards are:

  1. We should be very careful while handling fire.
  2. Electrical appliances and wiring should be check regularly for faults or breaks in the plastic coverings of the wires.
  3. Synthetic clothes like nylon should not be worn while burning, handling fire or while cooking as synthetic clothes can catch fire easily.
  4. In case of a gas leak, all the doors and windows should be opened. No one should strike a match or operate any electrical switches in such a case because electrical switches generate sparks while being switched on and off. faulty gas pipes should also be replaced.


Question 6: Explain how we put out different kinds of fires?

Answer: Different kind of fires can put out in the following ways:

Major fire:

  1. The nearest fire station should be informed.
  2. Firefighter put out fires with the help of their fire engines major fire small fires can be put out using a special instrument called the fire extinguisher.

Fire due to electric faults:

      1.This fire is never put using water because electricity can flow through water.
      2.such fires are put using sand or fire extinguisher.

Fire from petrol:

  1. This is also put out using sand.


Question 7: Define first aid. What first aid should be given to a person minor burn?

Answer: The first or immediate help given to injured people before they are taken to a hospital is called a first aid. In case of minor burns, the burnt area should be held under cool running water for some time. An antiseptic cream or a past of baking soda and water should be applied on the burn.


Question 8: What is rabies? How can you give immediate help to a person in case of an animal bite?

Answer: Rabies is a disease caused due to an animal bit. In case of an animal bit, wash the wound with running water and cover it with a clean bandage. Take the patient to the hospital immediately. For bee stings, apply a paste of baking soda or toothpaste. For wash stings apply vinegar or lemon juice.
